INAUGURATION BLITZ, DAY FOUR!

Is anyone else exhausted? This week has been … tough, to say the least! We’re watching our country go through a historic change–and whether you have optimism for our new president or not, no one can argue that the country is facing a challenging moment. We took the week to run an Inauguration Blitz—not annual, since this only happens once every four to eight years! Our … once-every-four-to-eight-years Inauguration Blitz, then. We’re focusing on government, how the country was born, presidential and congressional behavior and ethics, and—most importantly—the idea of revolution. With that in mind, we’ve gathered some of our favorite revolutionary characters for some down-and-dirty answers about their fights, who they’re fighting against, and when they know it’s time to stand up and fight for the right side.

Up next is Kali, one badass demon/angel/sometime heroine from Linda Foster’s Realm of the Unclaimed series.

1.      So first, the obvious. Tell us about your world. Where do you live? What’s the story there?

I used to live in Heaven, but I’ve now spent hundreds of years in Hell. I’m hoping it’s not a permanent address change … but I’ll have to let you know. For the time being, though, I’m here. It’s not a pretty place—lots of fire and screaming. The residents aren’t friendly, and enjoy picking fights a little bit too much … and honestly, I guess I enjoy that as well. I’m so good at them, after all. Adrian, the king here, has always thought he should be in charge of the whole world, and lately he’s started talking about is plans again. Plans to change the landscape upstairs, on Earth. Plans to get back into Heaven. And while that’s a horrifying thought … I don’t see him accomplishing it.

2.     Got it. So Adrian’s your bad guy. What are you doing about it?

*That would be my mighty rolling eyes* King Adrian is the biggest bad guy, I suppose. And the short answer is … I’m hoping to take him down and earn a ticket back home to Heaven. I already foiled his plans once, and I’m betting pretty much everything that I can pull it off again. Why am I fighting him? He’s an awful being. He’s selfish and cares only about himself—and he always has. He wants to destroy Heaven, and doesn’t care who he hurts in the process. He doesn’t care if the entire worldbreaks because of what he does. It’s all about him and his glory.

Oh, and he’s responsible for my current situation as an unwilling resident in Hell. So there’s that. I’m all for saving the world … but I can’t lie. This is ultimately about the revenge. I want to see him suffer. And I’m not going to play nice this time.

3.     What do you think of revolutions, then? Obviously you’re a fan. If you come across a corrupt government or system, do you think it’s your responsibility to fight them?

I mean, of course I’m for revolution on in the right side, but the longer I’m around, the more I’m starting to think that you don’t ever really know who you’re fighting for. I’ve seen both sides of this curtain, and both Heaven and Hell are fighting only for themselves. Makes it kind of hard to decide, right? If the incentive is good enough I’ll fight. Or if there’s something in it for me. Like with Adrian. Selfish, narcissist, running around ruining lives like it’s nothing. Ruining my life. So yeah, people who ruin life for everyone else just because they’re unhappy … those are the kind of people I’ll fight. Got a problem with that?

4.     What’s your goal with your fight? What do you hope to see happen?

I want revenge on Adrian. Like I said. And I want to get back into Heaven. But mostly revenge. However that happens is fine with me.

5.     Do you think you’ll succeed?

Like I said: did it once, I’ll do it again. It’s personal this time.

6.     How do you know you’re doing the right thing? Don’t you think there are a lot of other people who are probably on the other side of the line?

I think I’ve already answered this question. I’ve made friends on both sides. I’ve told you, both sides only care about themselves. But I believe I’m on the side that’s less evil. Is that good?

7.     Final question. What do you think of being a heroine rather than a hero? Does it matter? Can a girl be just as revolutionary as a boy?

I don’t consider myself to be a hero or heroine. If I did, I wouldn’t need a gender-related title. The only thing you need to know about me is that I’m a badass whose bad side you don’t want to be on. Got it?
Catch up with Linda, and watch for Kali’s story out this year!
